Cegid documents APIs on its developer portal, notably for Cegid Loop and Cegid Expert, plus REST Web APIs for some products such as Y2 Finance. Access requires keys issued by Cegid or by the accounting firm. Expect $6,800 to $22,400 (€6,000–€20,000)excl. VAT for a business app connected to Cegid.
Cegid is used by many French companies, either directly or through their accounting firm. Connecting a business app to Cegid is possible, but how you do it depends on the product, who administers it and which access keys Cegid issues. Here is what the official documentation said when I checked it in October 2026, and how I organize this kind of project.
What Cegid documents
Cegid runs a developer portal that brings together the documentation for its APIs. Three cases are worth separating.
| Product | What Cegid documents | Access |
|---|---|---|
| Cegid Loop (accounting firms) | APIs for integration with partners and clients | API key generated by the firm’s administrator, plus a subscription key supplied by Cegid |
| Cegid Expert | A set of APIs to connect Cegid Expert to other solutions | API key, subscription key and an OAuth 2.0 access token |
| Y2 Finance | REST Web APIs: entries, entry imports, company files, fiscal years, customer balances | Token, Basic or Windows authentication depending on the setup; some APIs require a license |
For Cegid Loop, the documentation describes two key tiers: a free standard key that can be shared with partners, and a billable advanced key reserved for the firm’s own APIs. For Cegid Expert, every call needs an access token obtained from the API key and the application’s credentials. The Y2 Finance Web API technical note covers posting entries, importing them in TRA format and reading customer balances.
On the ERP side, the Cegid XRP Flex product page highlights APIs and native connectors. The technical details depend on your version and your integrator.
Who needs to be involved
This is the point companies often discover too late. With Cegid, the connection is rarely a matter between you and the developer alone:
- your accounting firm, if it administers Cegid Loop or Cegid Expert: it generates the API key and grants access;
- your Cegid integrator, if you run an ERP: they know your configuration, your licenses and which APIs are enabled;
- you, to settle the business rules: which data is the reference, and when it gets sent.
I suggest bringing these people together during scoping. One hour of meeting saves weeks of back and forth.
Budget and timeline
Amounts exclude VAT and cover a first version running in production. The connection matches the “connection to other tools” building block in my pricing ($2,300 (€2,000)excl. VAT), plus the work specific to the Cegid product.
| Project | What it includes | Indicative budget | Timeline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business app with accounting export | Focused app + entry files in Cegid’s import format | $6,800 to $13,500 (€6,000–€12,000)excl. VAT | 1 to 2 months |
| App synchronized via API | App + automatic posting of entries or documents, balances sent back | $11,200 to $22,400 (€10,000–€20,000)excl. VAT | 2 to 3 months |
| Portal or management tool linked to the ERP | Several areas and roles, multiple flows, data migration | $16,800 to $56,000 (€15,000–€50,000)excl. VAT | 3 to 6 months |
For a figure that fits your case, the estimator gives you a range in one minute. The quote becomes fixed once your Cegid product’s documentation and access are confirmed.
Rules for a reliable connection
- Test in a dedicated environment. Cegid provides a partner environment for Loop. For other products, ask your integrator for a test company file.
- Plan for downtime. The Loop documentation recommends a retry policy, since some APIs can be temporarily unavailable. I queue any send that fails.
- Log every exchange. Each entry sent must be traceable along with its response. This is essential when talking to your accountants.
- Protect the keys. API keys stay on the server, never in the browser, and are rotated if a provider leaves the project.
When this is not the right approach
If your firm already receives your documents through a collection tool and the bookkeeping runs smoothly, a direct connection to Cegid adds little. Keep the existing setup.
If your Cegid ERP is just missing a screen or a report, ask your integrator first what configuration allows. Custom software makes sense when part of the work happens outside Cegid, at customer sites, in the field or in a portal, and is re-entered afterward. The page on extending existing software without replacing it walks through that reasoning.
Where to start
- Identify your Cegid product and who administers it: you, your integrator or your accounting firm.
- List the double entry between your tools and Cegid, with monthly volumes.
- A 30-minute call to check which connection method is possible.
- Scoping (1 to 2 weeks) with the right people: flows, access, fixed quote.
- Development in batches, tested in a test environment before going live.
France’s e-invoicing reform also changes how invoices circulate: see mandatory e-invoicing in France. For the application side, the business apps page explains my approach.
Frequently asked questions
My accounting firm uses Cegid: can I connect my app to it?
Often, yes. For Cegid Loop, the documentation provides an API key generated by the firm’s administrator, with a free standard tier that can be shared with partners. So you need your firm’s agreement and involvement from scoping onward.
Are Cegid’s APIs paid?
It depends on the product. For Cegid Loop, Cegid distinguishes a free standard key and a billable advanced key reserved for firm-level APIs. For other products, some APIs are subject to licensing: check your contract with Cegid or your integrator.
How long does it take to connect an app to Cegid?
For a simple connection inside an existing app, a few weeks. For a complete business app connected to Cegid, expect 1 to 3 months including scoping, and longer if several flows have to go both ways.
What if my Cegid product has no accessible API?
Then we fall back on file exchange: the app produces files in the import format Cegid expects, dropped automatically or imported by a user. Less elegant, but reliable and inexpensive.
