Taking over an app built with Lovable, Bubble or a no-code tool

Has your AI-generated or no-code app hit its limits? The telltale signs, the three options (consolidate, migrate, rebuild) and how to choose.

AI app builders (Lovable, Bolt, v0) and no-code platforms (Bubble, Glide, Softr) let you launch a tool in a few days. That is great for testing an idea. But many projects then reach a point where every change breaks something else, performance drops, or the platform bill keeps climbing.

I know the situation well: my own website was an app generated with Lovable before it was rebuilt. Here is how to work out where you stand, and what options you have.

Signs it is time to act

  • Every new request to the AI breaks an existing feature, and nobody really knows why.
  • The app is slow, especially as data builds up.
  • Search visibility is poor: an app rendered in the browser can look almost empty to Google.
  • Security is unclear: who has access to which data, and are the database rules actually enforced on the server?
  • Costs are rising: AI credits, number of users, a higher plan required for a single feature.
  • You depend on one person who “knows how to talk to the tool”.

Step one: the audit

Before deciding anything, you need to know what the existing app is worth. An audit answers four questions:

  1. Can the code or configuration be recovered? Builders like Lovable produce real code (often React and Supabase), exportable to GitHub; some no-code platforms export nothing usable.
  2. Is the database sound? Structure, duplicates, access rules.
  3. Does the security hold up? Exposed keys, overly broad access, checks done only in the browser.
  4. What works and should be kept? Often more than you think.

The three options

Option When to choose it What it involves
Consolidate The code is recoverable and the structure is sound Clean-up, security hardening, tests, then controlled improvements
Migrate gradually One part is sound, another is blocking Rebuild the fragile modules one by one, without stopping the business
Rebuild The foundation is fragile or the platform exports nothing Start from scratch, reusing the data, the approved screens and the experience gained

Rebuilding is not a failure: the first version served to validate the need, which makes the second one faster and more accurate.

The special case of search visibility

If your app also serves as your showcase website, this is often the most urgent point. An app that generates its pages in the browser can show Google a loading screen, with the same title and the same canonical URL on every page. The solution is to separate the public website (static pages, fast and well indexed) from the app (logged-in area), as I did for my own website.

How much does it cost?

The audit is the first expense, and the one with the best return: the express audit starts at $670 (€589)excl. VAT, the full audit at $2,300 (€1,990)excl. VAT. The cost of what follows depends on the option chosen; the audit gives you a costed action plan precisely so you can decide.

My advice: do not pile new requests onto a shaky foundation. Take stock, back up your code and data, then choose between consolidating, migrating or rebuilding with full knowledge of the facts.
